There are times when glasses or contacts are not an adequate option for correcting vision. This may be due to the development of cataracts which causes unclear vision even with glasses or contacts. In this case, cataract surgery may be necessary. In other cases, a person may want to be without glasses or contacts due to the inability to wear them comfortably or simply the desire to be free of the dependence of them. In this case refractive surgery, such as Lasik, for vision correction may be an option.
In either case, of utmost importance is to make sure a person is fully evaluated as to make sure they are a good candidate for surgery and that the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
